Take Weight-loss pills with your blinkers off

There is nothing that astounds me more when it comes to weight-loss treatment using drugs, than the blinkers-on approach of those who produce such diabolical chemicals.

To understand my point, go to this report and take note of the flaws in the statements of the excited Dr Fujioka who is quoted as saying  “With these new medications, now we’re getting what we call double digit weight-loss — 10-percent and up. So now you’re losing 20, 30, 40 pounds of weight with these new weight-loss medications, which really makes the doctor and the patient a lot happier.”

So far so good, the 100 million or so Americans suffering from obesity can rest “a lot happier”, knowing the good doctor reports that in trials, these new treatments appear to only have mild, minor side-effects in some people such as nausea or headache.

Or can they?

What is the flaw in most drug reports of this nature?
The flaw is this of course. There is no evidence produced about long term effects, nor is there evidence to say that your offspring will be unaffected by the drugs you take.

Fifty years ago we gave no thought to how alcohol and nicotine might harm the unborn child. Now we know those drugs can have a significant effect on infants, often for the rest of their lives. (You will have heard of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and the fact that infant mortality is 50% higher when the mother smokes?)  Now we are asked to believe that the use of literally hundreds of brand new medical drugs, including weight-loss pills, cause no long-term harm to the health of our unborn.
What do you really think?

It’s your choice. If you are overweight, will you look only to the short term, and take these wonder pills, or will you take the commonsense approach, and say wait a minute – I agree that I will lose weight, but please show me that these pills will not harm my liver, my kidneys, my heart, and all my other organs, especially my brain?

Too many drugs are now known to have long term side-effects, side-effects that are worse than the disease itself, and I think it is an ongoing scandal that many of them are still being prescribed.

If you want to lose weight, please do it naturally – if not for your sake, perhaps for the sake of your unborn children.

Sincerely,

Weight Wise Man
