A recent European study shows clearly that the Western world is clearly in trouble! This time it’s all about weight. Or rather, our exploding excess weight.
In my past few blogs I have written about the various linked diseases that obesity generates. Here is yet another.
Cancer.
At the present time, in the Western world, about 8% of all cancers are linked to obesity, and the figure is steadily rising. Bizarrely, as the effect of smoking as a cause of cancer reduces
through our changing smoking habits, the obesity “cancer factor” rises due to our changes in lifestyle. What is just as significant – the obesity factor seems to affect women the most.
Andrew Renehan from the University of Manchester gave a paper to the joint meeting of European Cancer Organisation and the European Society for Medical Oncology in September
stating that a model he had devised demonstrated that in 2002, 70,000 cases of cancer out of a total of 2 million were linked to obesity, while in 2008 the figure had risen to 124,000.
Other studies in US show that 20% of cancer cases are linked to obesity.
What is of further interest is that the reasons are unclear.
Hypotheses suggesting excess stomach acid and/or an increase in hormones have been made, but are unsubstantiated.
I suspect that in such cases, a cancer sufferer’s total immune system has been seriously compromised, and the heart, and thus the blood circulation are unable to effectively do the the job nature intended them to do.
The hard unpleasant facts show that in terms of PREVENTION of obesity, governments are failing, the medical medical profession is failing, and so we must take responsibility ourselves.
This can be a difficult matter for some people. If you think you might be a possible candidate I encourage you to begin your weight-loss program NOW.
