I am here to support your weight-loss effort, but out there in Realityland are some who prefer you just as you are, not a “new slim you”. They are the “weight-loss saboteurs” .
And you will have to deal with them!
Who are they?
- “Friends” who are envious of your weight-loss. (Real friends give you support).
- Partners who feel threatened.
- “Whisperers” with nothing better to do.
- Mockers who fail to understand the reasons for losing weight. Pity them. They know not what they do.
- Thoughtless children, both young and grown-up.
What to do? How do you overcome these powerful negative vibes, which have been the downfall of many personal weight-loss programs. (One way, if you are having trouble, is to join a weight-loss group. This often is money well spent).
If you are going it alone, you should work out strategies for yourself, because each case is different. Here are a few suggestions to protect your weight-loss progress.
What do you say to envious people – perhaps in your workplace, who constantly snipe, and offer you unwanted food and calorie laden “goodies”? `
Ask them politely to respect your wishes, and give you help or…
Put them to shame – ask if THEY want to join you in the battle of the bulge or…
When all else fails, show them a “health warning” note from your doctor!
Give your “saboteur” partner reassurances that you will be just as loveable when you are slimmer – probably more so! If you cannot give a reassurance, then you have a REAL dilemma, and you both probably need professional counseling.
Some people can be cruel, and if you are fragile, they can make your life very difficult. At that point you may have to take a tough decision, such as leaving your job. If that is not possible, please seek extra support. Call on your buddy or others for help. Write me a letter. You don’t have to deal with weight-loss saboteurs alone!
