I try to make my weight wise blog positive, but every now and then reality hits hard. Not every weight-loss cloud has a silver lining, and some of us need extra support, even after the weight-loss battle seems to have been won.
This is the true story of Susie (not her real name).
Susie was overweight, and decided to commence a weight-loss program with diet and exercise. She had the support of her husband Eddie, and all went well from the start. Susie’s body shape changed as the weight flew off, and with it came new confidence and new outlook on life. Unfortunately, Eddie for whatever reasons did not appreciate his “new slim” Susie as we would hope and expect. (I can only guess, since my knowledge is second-hand).
Sadly Susie and her husband separated, and were divorced, and she is now very unhappy.
To my chagrin Susie is depressed, her eating habits have slid, and she is back on the slippery slope of weight gain. Susie is now openly stating that, because of her broken marriage, weight-loss was the worst thing she ever did. It is a tragic story , and course we know it was not solely her loss of weight that caused the marriage breakdown, but it does raise a valid point. You need to communicate with those near and dear. Get their support, but make them aware that things will not be the same when you are a “new person”. Can you do this? Do you see possible difficulties in your weight-loss story? Am I over anxious?
