Losing weight should be like getting married!

Both weight-loss and marriage are about commitment, but there’s more to it than you might imagine.

Weight-loss and your health are as inseparable as Siamese twins. When you lose unwanted weight, then your health improves.  The reverse is also true -a healthy lifestyle will give you a healthy weight.

Let’s talk about Linda. Linda is made of stern stuff, and when her marriage broke down, instead of moping about feeling sorry for herself, she put her frustrations into getting fit.  She ate all the right foods, lost weight and eventually trained for the triathalon, and after  2 years she was in wonderful shape.  In effect she had become married to her healthy lifestyle.
She didn’t wear a ring, but she may well have, she was so married to her fitness. I haven’t seen Linda for some months but to my knowledge although pushing 50, she is still in the peak of condition.
How Linda trains is not, and nor should it be a weight-loss program for everyone, but there is a moral to the story.

A healthy weight can only be maintained if you maintain a healthy lifestyle
.

Get it?
Most people lose weight simply to “look good”. This is similar to getting married for the “Big Event” wedding day and honeymoon, while ignoring the long term need to grow together. Sooner or later, the novelty wears off – and then what happens?  A period of STRESS rears its ugly head  – you are “busted” and your commitment to weight-loss disappears in a puff of smoke.

To maintain your weight-loss you must commit to a healthy lifestyle. You MARRY yourself  to a healthy lifestyle – and a healthy weight, for good.

Now you are engaged, this is your plan.
Wait a minute – who’s engaged?
Don’t you remember, you promised you would lose weight for healthy reasons, and would change your lifestyle forever?
You are ready to marry.  Go out and get yourself a great ring to remind you of your commitment. Yes I am serious!  Every time you think of losing your nerve, no matter how bad things are, let your new ring remind you to keep on track. “I can, and will be healthy!”

Conclusion: When you begin a weight-loss program make sure you are doing it for the right reasons.  Keeping your weight under control is a commitment to “health” for life.

Note: In case of you misunderstand me, it IS possible to be married to both a spouse and a healthy lifestyle :-)
