Learn to love exercise, and lose weight

Weight Loss: Exercise the vital component to good health

Another wise man once said:

“I have two doctors – my right leg, and my left leg”.

Walking is the best exercise for you to begin with, assuming your weight-loss program is beginning from scratch.

Begin gently. Do not extend yourself unnecessarily. Let your body tell you when you have had enough. A matched walking partner helps you to keep it regular- somebody whose weight-loss, and exercise needs are similar to yours.

Walk for 3 times a week, increasing to 5 times when you are ready. Walk in the sun, in the rain and in the wind. (Tornadoes, hurricanes and blizzards excepted).

Walking works wonders

Walking works wonders

How far should you walk?

How long is a piece of string? What are your weight-loss needs?

Walk as far as you can without stress. It might be 100 metres to begin with. It might be a mile. It’s up to you (and your partner).

Weight-loss will not come immediately. Be patient, keep improving. Gradually extend your walks, and when you are ready, after your weight-loss begins, and you muscle are toned, you will want to do more.

After a year you should be able to set aside at least an hour each day, walking 5 times a week, as I do, at the age of seventy-one.

I can’t wait to hear of your weight-loss successes!

Other exercises.

The Gym.: This fine. Theoretically you will have a wide range of exercises, directed by a qualified coach, and there is nothing wrong with that, except that is can cost quite a lot of money in the hope you might lose weight.

It’s long been a source of fascination for me when I think of all the labour saving appliances we have invented over the last 50 years. And now we need to visit a gym to “replace” the exercise to lose weight – the digging, cleaning and sweeping etc exercises our parents or grandparents used to do. Weight-loss was far from their mind!

As much as I love vacuum cleaners, ride on lawn mowers, dish washers, washing machines, leaf blowers, juicers, and all other motorized appliances, not forgetting our beloved automobile, they do soften us, and our health, and thus tend increase our weight.
